A SHORT HISTORY OF PAMBA BRANCH.
Pamba branch was officially opened in November 1997 and the first MEC was registered on 25th Nov 1997. The first branch manager was Mr. Abdi C. Masatu where he started with only four staff including him. Currently staff the number has increased to nine. Kigoma is the Regional town for Kigoma Region situated in the Western part of Tanzania with a population of 144,257. Most people are involved in the small-scale businesses. 1. PREAMBLE
Dodoma is a municipal which is at the central part of Tanzania is located in longitude35
to 37 east and latitude 4 to 7 south. The informal sector is growing very rapid
and has about 4500 small businesses, which make PRIDE Tanzania to potentially
being attracted to open its branch in 1997. PRIDE Tanzania Dodoma has an office
at Bima Building in Dodoma municipal along Lindi avenue / Mtendeni Street on plot
number 12-51 Block M.
The Branch started with four market enterprise committees (MECS), now has 53 MECS.
The branch is in operations for about 8 years as of December 2004
2. BRANCH PERFORMANCE: 1997-2004.
2.1. CLIENT POPULATION.
Since it started up to 2004 the Branch client population of about 2163 where
65% of clients are women and 35% are men.

PREAMBLE PRIDE Tanzania Mianzini Branch is located at diplomat house in Arusha municipal along main road of Moshi - Arusha few kilometers from Pride Tanzania headquarters. Arusha is a municipal town situated in the Northern part of Tanzania . It was established in 1900 by the German colonialist as garrison and headquarters of the former East Africa community in 1967 -1977, and the new revived East Africa community. It is the host of International
Tribunal dealing with the Rwanda Genocide. 5.E-mail Address: masatu@pride-tz.org B. HISTORY: The region was opened in April 2000 together with the other three regions of the organization (North, East & south, and Lake regions). This was after the management of PRIDE Tanzania had decided to decentralize some of its managerial and supervisory authority in the wake of the expanding operational base of the organization.
The Central region started off with five branches and two sub-branches under its supervision. The branches included: Morogoro, Dodoma, Iringa, Tabora and Kigoma branches. The sub branches were: Singida and Makambako sub-branches. It should be noted that Singida branch was launched in July 1998 as a full-fledged branch but it was relegated to become a sub-branch in 2000 due to its stagnant growth. It remained as a sub-branch under the management of Dodoma branch from that period to 2002 when it was reinstated to a full-fledged branch after it had demonstrated excellent performance particularly in light of growth in client population and both portfolio size and quality. Thus, the Regional Office took over the supervision of the branch at the capacity of a sub-branch and saw it through to a full-fledged branch status.
To date therefore, the Region supervises a total of seven full-fledged branches and one sub-branch. The MIS Central Regional office has also been administratively under the C & Western Regional Office. C. CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES Through out this period the Central & Western Region has been facing a number of challenges and enjoyed a number of triumphs in perusing of its supervisory and advisory duties to the branches. The challenges include: 1.Slow and/or stagnant growth of its branches: this is mainly attributed to the fact that most of the branches in the region are located in the environment where still much has to be done (particularly at macro-environmental level) to prosper microfinance operations particularly culturally and economically. 2.Difficulty in collection of loan repayments: This was particularly sighted in the branches of Kigoma (2002), Dodoma (2000) and Tabora (2003). Cultural and economical reasons also seemed to be the major cause here. 3.Difficulty in getting premises convenient for our operations. Kigoma faced such challenge from 1998, when it was launched, to 2002. Iringa branch is still facing the challenge, though there are near hopes of resolving it. Some of the successes and progresses include: 1.Gradual increase in client population. The Singida and Kigoma branches which were earlier considered to be stagnant started to gain considerable growth as from years 2002 and 2003 respectively. 2.Gradual increase in portfolio size. This has been happening over the years through out all the branches and sub-branch of the region. 3.Dodoma branch has been the first branch in the organization to issue Ajira Loans a new product of the organization that is now in the Pilot phase. The exercise has generally been going on well. D.
